Ocean Science and Engineering Faculty Position

Applications are sought for a tenure-track faculty position in Ocean Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering starting September
2017 or on a mutually agreed upon date thereafter.
Candidates are encouraged from all areas of the broad and diverse field of Ocean Science and Engineering including but not limited to:
energy, robotics, autonomy, system integration, transportation, hydrodynamics, turbulence, naval architecture, structural analysis, materials, sensing, exploration, communications, acoustics, sustainability, food, environmental management, biomimetics, resource harvesting, medicine, security, high performance computation, forecasting, inference, ecosystem dynamics, climate effects, signal processing, and data management.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research, contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the Mechanical Engineering department and add to the diversity of the academic community.
Appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. A senior faculty appointment may be considered in special cases. Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. by the beginning of employment and have research experience in an area related to Ocean Science and Engineering by the beginning of employment.
