Question about assimilation

Dear ROMS users,

I was told that ROMS is using a 4DVAR data assimilation scheme which takes 20 times longer than
normal calculation. But I think that 3DVAR is also powerful and less cost effective.

My question is
Are there any plans that making ROMS also be capable of doing 3DVAR data assimilation in near future?

The myroms.org development team is firmly committed to 4dvar data assimilation. You're lucky not to have gotten a really nasty reply here. Check the presentations from the recent ROMS meeting to see how committed they are to the adjoint.
