Seeking expressions of interest for a 2 year position (possibility of ongoing funding) for a ROMS Modeller / Software Engineer UNSW Sydney Australia.
It will be a few months before the contracts are in place, but in the mean time seeking EOIs for a position.
The fixed term (initially 2 yr) role is to work on elements of the design, development and evaluation of a prototype coastal ocean forecast system using ROMS (the regional ocean modelling system). The person will be responsible for the ongoing development and operationalisation of the South East Australian Coastal Ocean Forecast System (SEA-COFS) that implements data-assimilation of real-time observations in a ROMS model of the East Australian Current System. The role operates within the auspices of the ACCESs-National research Infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Marine Science, Oceanography, with several years experience in ocean modelling or software engineering is required.
Significant knowledge of at least one of the generic coastal ocean models (e.g. POM, ROMS, FVCOM);
Strong programming and mathematical skills are desired; familiar with high performance computing (HPC) environment and significant knowledge of Fortran, Matlab, and/or Python is required. Data Assimilation experience will be regarded very favourably.
