Postdoc in Marine Boundary Layer Turbulence

#1 Unread post by sundermeyer »

University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

Postdoctoral Investigator
School for Marine Science and Technology

The School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a postdoctoral investigator to work on problems relating to the effects of turbulence, aerosols, and other atmospheric parameters on optical transmission in the marine atmospheric boundary layer. Specific project areas include field observations from fixed, autonomous and shipboard platforms, and state-of-the-art numerical modeling of how fluctuating properties of the marine boundary layer affect optical transmission. Work will include collecting and interpreting field observations using theory and numerical results; analyzing and synthesizing data from such studies; working with researchers from collaborating institutions; and disseminating results through workshops, conference presentations, and peer reviewed publications.

Initial appointment will be for up to 12 months. Renewals will be contingent on performance and availability of funding.

A Ph.D. in physical oceanography or meteorology, or closely related field is required. The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of basic principles of air-sea interaction, with significant education/experience in boundary layer physics and/or turbulence. Additional experience in numerical modeling and data analysis preferred, including familiarity with Matlab computing software and programming languages such as Fortran, Python, C++, R, etc. Applicants are expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and organizational ability, and a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications commensurate with experience. ABD's may be considered, however, the degree would need to be completed/confirmed by 6/30/2022.

Interested applicants that meet the requirements are encouraged to review the SMAST Code of Conduct and Diversity Statement (https://www.umassd.edu/media/umassdartm ... tement.pdf).

To apply please submit a letter of interest, current resume and the contact information for three professional references at: http://careers.umassd.edu/dartmouth/en- ... ral-fellow.

Review of applications is ongoing.
