Post-doctoral position at the University of South Carolina

There is an opening for a one-year post-doctoral position in the School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment at the University of South Carolina to study how changes in estuarine geometry associated with harbor development and dredging have impacted tides in Charleston estuary, South Carolina. The Regional Ocean Modeling Systems (ROMS) will be used to perform simulations of astronomical tides on present and historical bathymetries, which will be reconstructed from maps available through e.g. the Library of Congress and other repositories.

Alexander Yankovsky and Raymond Torres based in the School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment, Enrica Viparelli and Erfan Goharian in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department will closely work with the post-doc and with two undergraduate students.
The students will help in the analysis of field data to determine changes in estuarine geometry since 1700 and in water levels recorded at the USGS stations. Field work will be performed to collect water level data for model verification.

Minimum qualification is a PhD in physical oceanography, civil engineering, geomorphology or related fields by the end of 2020. Experience with the Regional Ocean Modeling Systems (ROMS) is preferred.

If interested, please send a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, name and contact information of three references to Enrica Viparelli at viparell@cec.sc.edu. We will start reviewing applications on October 26, 2020 and online interviews will be done in November.

Enrica, Sasha, Ray and Erfan
