HBOI, Florida Atlantic University, is seeking a motivated MS graduate student to be enrolled in spring 2020 in HBOI’s Marine Science and Oceanography Program (https://www.fau.edu/hboi/education/msmso.php). In addition to completing needed classes, the student will participate in an aquaculture research project with a large team at HBOI for enhancing the HBOI Integrated Multi-trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) System (https://www.fau.edu/hboi/aquaculture/imta.php). The main task is to develop and test a biological model that simulates the nutrient and carbon cycles, growth of macro-algae (seagrass), and biogeochemical responses of shellfish (clams, oysters etc.) and fishes in the IMTA system. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Oceanography, Marine sciences, and/or Environmental Sciences is required. Basic knowledge of marine chemistry and marine biology is required. Significant programming (Matlab, Fortran, Python) experience is required. Knowledge of aquaculture or strong mathematical skills is preferred. The candidate must have a strong interest in modeling natural and/or artificial biological systems, and solid background in mathematics, biology, biogeochemistry, oceanography and/or related fields.
