Coastal modelling position at the Univ. of Western Australia

#1 Unread post by ryanjlowe »

Dear colleagues

Below please find information on a research position available at the University of Western Australia in coastal modelling

Ryan

*****************************************************************************

Research Associate/Research Fellow: Coastal physical oceanography

• 3 year appointment
• Minimum commencing salary for PhD is $88,520 p.a. or Level B $93,182 - $110,654 p.a.

We invite a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to undertake cutting-edge research in the area of coral reef oceanography within the University of Western Australia node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (see http://www.coralcoe.org.au ).

The Research Fellow will develop a research program using ocean modelling and field studies to understand and predict how physical ocean dynamics influence coral reef ecosystems. This could, for example, include research into the oceanic drivers of fine-scale environmental variability (e.g. temperature and water quality) within reefs, the downscaling of regional ocean climate variability to assess local impacts to reefs, and the dynamics of coral reef connectivity.
Expertise in the physical dynamics of ocean systems is essential, together with a proven capacity to undertake and publish high-quality, internationally recognised research. Successful applicants will be expected to develop their own research projects, exploit the world-leading capabilities within UWA and its Centre partners, as well as work in collaboration with existing teams.

Key selection criteria:

• PhD in Physical Oceanography or a related discipline.
• An exceptional track-record in the development and application of 3D ocean circulation models such as ROMS, as well as the analysis of field data sets.
• Excellent publication record relative to career stage.
• Ability to conduct research across disciplines to investigate linkages between physical/chemical/biological coral reef processes.
• Established national and international links with appropriate research organizations and personnel • Effective inter-personal and communication skills.

Closing date: Friday 29 January 2016
