2012 ROMS/TOMS User Workshop
Petrópolis Conference Room, Windsor Atlântica Hotel, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, October 22 - 25, 2012

We are inviting you to participate at the next ROMS/TOMS User Workshop to be held at the Petrópolis Conference Room, at the Windsor Atlântica Hotel on Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The invitation is open to everybody that wants to attend. This is the first ROMS workshop in South America :!:

The user community in Brazil and South America has increased substantially over the last few years. We are trying to organize the best workshop ever in Brazil. The current plan is to have a three-day regular ROMS Workshop with lectures, oral presentations, and posters. Additionally, we are planning to add a fourth-day to concentrate on modern observational programs and how they can be combined with models to get the best estimate of the ocean state. We know that the Brazilian scientific and modeling communities are particularly interested in advanced observational systems and modeling techniques.

The registration is open until June 1, 2012. The abstracts for oral presentations and posters are due by August 31, 2012. To register, please log into the ROMS website and fill out the workshop  registration form. This information can be updated often. Notice that there also entries for the T-shirt size and abstract(s). If you are not already a ROMS user please fill out this  form to become a ROMS user.

The hotel Windsor Atlântica requires a definitive attendance count by June 1, 2012. We have to pay for all the logistics related with the conference room and services. We appreciate the sponsoring from various sources to make this possible (ONRG, ProOceano, Rutgers, Anonymous). It will be helpful for us if you register early. However, please register only if you are committed to attend. If you would like to attend but you are not sure, let us know by sending me an  e-mail.

ROMS has thousands of users worldwide. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to pay travel expenses for select students to attend the workshop. We try to hold the ROMS workshops throughout the world to make it easier for users with limited funds to attend.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the greatest cities in the world with beautiful beaches, great food and music, and intoxicating culture. We are very happy to bring the ROMS workshop to Rio and South America. Please notice that Rio has become very busy in recent years so we encourage you to register and book your hotel as soon as possible since hotels tend to book up early. All workshop information, including for travel and hotels, can be found  here. Further information will be posted on that site as it becomes available.

Attached is a flyer you can download (you may have to log in to the forum) if you wish to advertise the workshop.

Looking forward to seeing you in Rio,

Organizing Committee,
