2005 ROMS/TOMS Workshop: Adjoint Modeling and Applications

We are inviting you to participate at the next ROMS/TOMS Workshop to be held at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Martin Johnson House (T-29), La Jolla, CA, USA on October 24, 25, 26 (morning), 2005.

This indeed will be an event since we are planning to dedicate a big part of this Workshop to ROMS/TOMS Adjoint. After several years of very hard work we are ready to release ROMS/TOMS tangent linear, representer and adjoint models to the full community. We are still on track and hope that this release will happen sometime in June 2005. This will give a few months for interested users to play with these codes before the October Workshop.

The invitation is open to everybody that wants to attend until we fill the nice Martin Johnson House overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The capacity of this building is between 40 to 50 people. We are thinking that if anyone wants to present results not related to the main subject of the Workshop, they can do so as a poster.

We are still discussing the format for this workshop. As in the past, it will include lectures and presentations. We also want to have lengthy sessions that discuss and illustrate the usage of the various adjoint drivers available. Recall that the tangent linear and adjoint models can be used for strong and weak constraint variational data assimilation (S4DVAR and W4DVAR), Generalized Stability Theory (GST) analysis, and ensemble forecasting. For more information about GST please check Moore et al. (2004) paper in Ocean Modelling.

The registration for this workshop is open until May 31, 2005 and abstracts are due by July 30, 2005. Since there is a limited space please make sure that you plan to attend before registering. To register send an e-mail to arango@marine.rutgers.edu before the above deadline. We will give priority to those who register earlier.

We will send more information in the future about traveling, hotels and other logistics. As in the past, information will be also posted in the ROMS/TOMS websites as it becomes available.
