If you have a graduate student that has recently defended a doctoral thesis, or will be defending their thesis this calendar year, they may be interested in applying to attend the third Physical Oceanography Dissertation Symposium (PODS) to be held in Waikoloa, Hawaii in May 2005. The application deadline is January 21, 2005. The symposium is sponsored by NSF, ONR, NASA, and NOAA, with coordination by the American Institute of Biological Sciences. The selection is competitive, and participation in PODS is by invitation only.
The PODS symposia are designed to bring together new PhDs and doctoral candidates soon to receive their degrees in physical oceanography (or a related field of environmental fluid dynamics) for the purpose of scientific discussion and the forging of future professional relationships.
Application and additional information is available at:
http://www.pods-symposium.org/index.html
Please pass this along to any students that may be interested. Students must receive their doctoral degree between June 30, 2004 and January 1, 2006 to be eligible.
