2009 ROMS/TOMS Asia-Pacific Workshop
Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), Sydney, Australia, March 30-April 3, 2009

Please check the following link for a PDF of the main workshop final program.

Notice that there are several maps to help you get to and from the workshop. We also included a map of tourist attractions near the city center that you may want to visit. Since there are no places to eat near the meeting, we will be providing a catered lunch. We need a final head count for the catering service so please let us know if you are registered but will be unable to attend.

Presentations will be 30 minutes each. This will include time for questions so plan accordingly, leaving 3-5 minutes for questions and answers. A copy of the program will be provided during registration. The workshop registration fee is set at 150 AUD (around 90 USD). This fee will cover workshop logistics, catered lunches and breaks, and the reception cruise. We are still hoping for additional funding that will allow us to lower the fee. If the funding comes through we will send another announcement. The registration fee will be payable in cash. We are trying to make arrangements for paying by credit card as well. A receipt will be provide so you can get reimbursed. We are planning to have 2 hour lunch breaks to allow time for posters, socializing and small group discussions.

Although not obligatory, we encourage you to use PowerPoint or similar electronic presentation media. Please bring your presentation on a memory stick or CD. Each presentation will be loaded into a single windows based laptop. We ask you to provide your talks during registration or during the breaks before your session. We are still waiting for specific information about the size of the poster panels but we expect them to be of typical size. Please bring an electronic copy of your poster to the workshop so it can be included in our CD archive. We also plan to load these presentations and posters on the ROMS/TOMS website for future reference.

Monday's beginners training/tutorial session will be held at University of New South Wales in a Red Center building computer lab. Some details and directions can be found on the  travel page. We are preparing a flier for you to download that will have further details including start time. Friday's sediment and biological modeling tutorials will be at SIMS beginning at 9am.

There is a lot of information on the  workshop webpage and new information is posted there often so please check back regularly.

The Harbour Cruise reception will take us around Sydney harbour on Wednesday night. We need a final head count so please let us know if you will not be attending this reception.

The weather forecast is sunny/partly cloudy and in the mid 70's F (mid 20's C). The workshop venue is near the water so bring proper attire for a swim or walk on the beach, if you so desire. Don't forget the sunscreen! You may need a sweater for the cruise. There will be plenty of light during the cruise to take pictures.

Looking forward to seeing you in Sydney,

Organizing Committee,
