tau_ce and tau_cd in sediment model

#1 Unread post by wulunyu »

Hi all,

I am confused about two varibles in sediment model:tau_ce and tau_cd,i.e.,critical erosion stress
and critical deposition stress. In the code the sediment start erosion when the bottom stress is above tau_ce, but I find that tau_cd is never used in the model although read from sediment.in.
My understanding is that tau_cd is a shear stress that deposition won't happen when bottom stress is above this value. If this is the case, in the tidal inlet case(two-way coupling sediment transport under wave and current ) I found the max combined stress in some deposition points is always GREATER than tau_cd(0.1), and by definition no deposition will happen. This leads to a contradiction.
How is tau_cd used in ROMS? Any help is welcome. Thanks.

The value of tau_cd is not used. We have it read in as a value in case someone needs it. But right now the code does not impose it. Your understanding of tau_ce is correct.
