Regional Physical and Biogeochemical Modeler Position in Honolulu

#1 Unread post by rrr »

The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center and the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (CIMAR) at the University of Hawaiʻi are recruiting a Regional Ocean Modeler based in Honolulu, HI. As a part of the PIFSC Ecosystem Sciences Division, the Regional Ocean Modeler will contribute to model development focusing on the physical structures (e.g., fronts, eddies, flow around steep bathymetric gradients) and biogeochemical conditions (carbonate chemistry, dissolved oxygen, and plankton composition) that are important to the fisheries, protected species, and coastal ecosystems in communities of the Pacific Islands. This individual will be working within a larger team focused on implementing NOAA's Climate, Ecosystems, and Fisheries Initiative. Through reliable production of ocean hindcasts, forecasts, and projections as well as associated indices, the modeler will help catalyze the integration of ocean modeling outputs into decision-making frameworks.

A PhD from an accredited college or university in Oceanography, Marine Biology, Climate Science, or Mathematics is a primary requirement. (A Master's degree from an accredited college or university and at least five (5) years of relevant work experience in the above fields may substitute for a PhD.)

Please note the deadline to apply is 10/18/2023. More information about applying to this position can be found by navigating to the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaiʻi and clicking on "Job Postings" and Project Name "CIMAR" (position 223642). Please note applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
