About tracers...

#1 Unread post by susonic »

Hi all
I'd like to ask three questions.

First, we can input river plume with salinity of zero in the model.
I'm wondering if it is possible to dicribe the nutrient density of the river plume to see the influence of the river plume.

Second, is there a way to calculate the diffusion of spilled oil over sea?
In Korea, we have serious oil spill recently and I want to simulate it.

Third, is there a way to trace particles with vertical
movement?(I'm using the floats/tracer.)

I'll appreciate if you give me the answers.
With best regard.

For question #2, there is a whole field of modeling oil spills. I don't know of any such models that have been used with ROMS. You can have fun stuff like the light components evaporating and the heavy components eventually sinking.

For the floats, yes, you can change their behavior in the vertical. The biologists have had to to that for critters that swim up and down every night/day. Perhaps one will post here with pointers...
