Can anyone tell me how to calculate eddy kinetic energy from roms history data?
like the mentioned here
https://www.aviso.altimetry.fr/en/data/ ... gy-12.html
But it is for geostrophic current. And I thik roms 3D u and v velocity have geostrophic+ ekman component both.
Second can we simply get the difference of kinetic energy from a long term average ( like monthly/seasonal from average file) with daily history data. What will be better choice first get the difference of velocity then calculate kinetic energy or get the difference of kinetic energies.
Third should we proceed with the calculation of geostrophic current from sea surface hight anamoly i.e.
u_geostrophic = -(g/f)(del_eta/del_y) mentioned in https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com ... /97JC03760 paper.
And later on calculation of eddy kinetic energy(EKE) mentioned for the aviso altimeter data.
I have attached the screen shot the particular section of the paper
In that equation can anyone explain me the term del_y prime, what could be it's value. Does it depend on resulution.
