Typo in state_read.F

The line 902 in state_read.F is
WRITE (stdout,40) TRIM(Vname(2,ifield)), Fmin, Fmax

but should be

WRITE (stdout,40) TRIM(Vname(2,idTvar(itrc)), Fmin, Fmax

ifield is only defined if "ifdef ADJUST_BOUNDARY"

Segmentation fault and debugging

After many years in modeling, I learned that running a model on different number of processors can (but should not) give different results. I also like to run the model in OPENMP and MPI to have a better understanding of what the results would look like if I give my code (bio+roms) to somebody. Howe...

Re: MPI - tiling on POWER8

I have not solved the problem with the tiling. As Kate says, if the answer changes for different tilings, there is a bug. I indeed believe that there must be a problem either with the ROMS distribution code, POWER8 MPI or xlf. But where, this is the question that will require digging. The different ...

Re: MPI - tiling on POWER8

Thanks Hernan. Sorry for not being clear in my posting. When I said "results", I meant state solution. For example, the difference in zeta in my setup (where I have only one open boundary at the north of the domain, i.e Y-direction) reaches 10-4 after 12hrs of run and keeps increasing. In ...

MPI - tiling on POWER8

This might be an issue that has been answered or partially answered, or it might just be a dumb question. But I will ask anyway since I do not have the answer. While I was trying to figure out the optimal tiling for my specific domain, I found out that the results were depending on the number NtileI...

Small fortran bug in nl_ocean.h

I just downloaded the latest version of ROMS. While most of the compilers do not have a problem, the IBM xlf90 and xlf90_r has a problem with the syntax and the compilation stops with an error !----------------------------------------------------------------------- ! If blowing-up, save latest model...

NEMURO - Opal equation

After rereading the NEMURO code in nemuro.h, I believe that there is a mistake in the term Bio(i,k,iopal)=Bio(i,k,iopal)+(GraPL2ZL+GraPL2ZP)*RSiN(ng) Indeed, this would mean that all the grazing in terms of silica would be going to the opal pool, which is not correct as only a fraction of it should ...

New version of cpp - Linux IBM power 8 compiler

I just got access to a power 8 IBM running Linux with compilers xlf90,xlf95, xlf90_r and xlf95_r and more. The cpp version is 6.2.0. I cannot go back to older versions of cpp. Unfortunately, this version of cpp does not have the -traditional option anymore. This creates problems with the concatenati...

Re: POWELL without SPITZ CPP option

Francois

You are right. The light coding without the Spitz formulation turned on is wrong. And the Spitz formulation is not really due to Spitz but to our great friend Fasham.

Re: some problems about fennel bio model

A few things to think about 1) the initial conditions for phytoplankton might be too small (1e-6) to allow some growth the first three months (Jan, Feb, March) in the subarctic (not enough light). Since there is still grazing and mortality, after awhile the concentrations might reach values even sma...
