The second joint biannual workshop for users of Terrain-Following Coordinates Ocean Models involving the POM, SPEM, SCRUM, and ROMS modeling communities will be held in Boulder, Colorado (USA) from August 20-22, 2001 (Monday though Wednesday).

The plan is for two days oral presentations and one half day (Wednesday) for informal discussions.

All interested parties (users and non-users) are cordially invited to attend. We are requesting to let us know as soon as possible if you will be attending. We need a head count.

Please e-mail abstracts or your intention to participate (if you do not wish to present) by May 31, 2001 to both, H. Arango and T. Ezer. We are especially interested in presentations dealing with advanced numerical techniques, evaluations and comparisons of different models or schemes, and data assimilation. Please tell us what other topics you will like to see covered.

Depending on the number of participants, the venue for the meeting is either NCAR's Foothills Lab or NOAA's Forecast System Lab. We will send a future mailing regarding this workshop, hotel, transportation, and other information.

We are in the process of finalizing the schedule for the upcoming Second joint biannual Terrain-following modeling communities workshop in Boulder, Colorado (USA), August 20-22.

The Workshop will be held at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Foothills Lab, Seminar Room, Building 2, Room 1001.

Check the left column in the participants table and tell us if the status of your participation is correct. Use the following:

If you will give a presentation, please check program and tell us if your abstract is there. If not, we need you abstract as soon as possible.

If you will be not attending the workshop, please let us know as soon as you possible. We can only fit 75 people in the seminar room and we have people in the waiting list.

We will be hosting a dinner buffet on Monday, August 20th at NCAR's Mesa Lab. We will also take the group photograph at this time. We need to have a head count, so we can make the plans with NCAR's Conference Services. Let us know if you will be bringing a guess to the dinner buffet.

We will ask a registration fee of 60 US dollars. The entire fee will be used to cover the conference services that includes the dinner buffet and morning/afternoon break services. If you are planning to bring a guess to the dinner buffet, Conference Services will charge 30 US dollars per person.

A draft program for the 2001 Users Workshop is now available. Due to the large number of talks and the limited time available, we had to schedule a few poster presentations, based on topic of sessions and the time the abstract was received. If you are unhappy with our decision or would like to suggest a change of your scheduled talk, please let us know by Monday, August 6.

We have a final program for the 2001 Terrain-Following Coordinates User's Workshop in Boulder, August 20-22. Thank you very much to all who submitted abstracts. We have very interesting 40-min long invited lectures, 20-min user's presentations and posters.

For those giving PowerPoint presentations, we offer the alternative of archiving the ppt files in the following anonymous ftp directory:

We will collect all the ppt files on Friday, August 17, 21:00 GMT and will written into a CD-ROM. It is a very good idea to have duplicates of the PowerPoint presentations in case that your PC is not Working. We also understand that some people change their presentation at the last minute. We will address this need during the Workshop.

We also will like to collect all the PowerPoint presentations and put them in our web site. PowerPoint presentations are optional. It is all up to you.

We are asking a registration fee of 60 US dollars. The entire fee will be used to cover the conference services that include the dinner buffet and morning/afternoon break services. The dinner buffet reception will be at NCAR's Mesa Lab, Monday, August 20, 18:00. We have arranged a van to transport people from Foothills Lab to Mesa Lab. Also, we expect car pooling between all of us. Usually, it only takes about 15 minutes ride between the two labs. We will take the group photograph at Mesa Lab.
